Goodbye Penny

The intaglio prints pays a tribute to the penny,
Which saw the inner sides of pockets of the many.
Despite its lasting history and symbolism,
In 2013, the little penny clashed with fatalism.

With its variety of transformations,
The kings and queens and alterations,
The sous withstood the test of time,
And proved to all that it’ll never die.

The penny’s weight is finished with,
Replaced by credit cards’ equal width.
The future is now with its chips and plastic,
But the penny is by far no less fantastic.

Unmatched companion thru good and bad,
Watching the penny go is truly sad.
Yet, using the months of the calendar year,
My colours want to keep it near.
